I agree with Cyberpunk, NOFX is amazing. Blink and many of the "punk" played on mainstream radio are pop-punk bands, with emphasis on pop.

If you want to hear some real (good) punk (not classic) check out Screeching Weasel, The Queers, NOFX, Pennywise.

Also, try some Ska Bands. Mighty Mighty Bosstones, Rx Bandits, and Less Than Jake are a few favorites of mine.

These are all just opinions. Don't knock on other people's perspective or "opinion". As far as I'm concerned it started in the 50's. Not Elvis or that stuff but if you look into the underground traditional 50's rockabilly(Benny Joy, Mac Curtis, Joe Clay, and so on...). That's where the baseline is at. They sang about participating in rebellious acts(drag racing, drinking, one night stands). For that era it was punk. Banned from the radio, most of it was. "Punk" itself came around in the late late 60's and it was the first genre of music to flat out say "Fuck you". Than there are the different branches of punk, "political punk"(Bad Religion 80-85), "Comedy punk"(The Dickies), "Horror Punk"(Misfits) and so on. But like I said that's just my opinion. It's like a damn tree, evern genre is a branch and every stick/twig is a sub-genre. As time goes by it's just going to expand and sad to say, by the music coming out today...it's gonna be just sad

Ser -- I would have to disagree that the early 80s punk bands 'made' punk.

Punk really started in 1977 with bands like The Ramones and The Dead Boys. These bands of course influenced the bands of the early 80s that you're referring to.
