Quotes
Just wanted to post some quotes from the last two books I finished.
Survivor – Chuck Palahniuk
A girl calls and asks, “Does it hurt very much to die?” Well, sweetheart, I tell her, yes, but it hurts a lot more to keep living. – 237
Looking good is not part of the big plan. My plan is to look like untapped potential. The look I’m going for is natural. Real. The look I’m after is, raw material. Not desperate and needy, but ripe with potential. Not hungry. Sure, I want to look like I’m worth the effort. Washed but not ironed. Clean but not polished. Confident but humble.
Honest is how I want to look. The truth doesn’t shine and glitter. – 220-219
You can tell people the truth, but they’ll never believe you until the event. Until it’s too late. In the meantime, the truth will just piss them off and get you in a lot of trouble. – 177
The same as if a tree falls in the forest and no one is there to hear it, you realize, if no one had been there to witness the agony of Christ, would we be saved? The key to salvation is how much attention you get. – 152
You realize that people take drugs because it’s the only real personal adventure left to them in their time-constrained, law-and-order, property-lined world. It’s only in drugs or death we’ll see anything new, and death is just too controlling. – 151
According to Fertility Hollis there is no chaos. There are only patterns…If you watch close, history does nothing but repeat itself. What we call chaos is just patterns we haven’t recognized. What we call random is just patterns we can’t decipher. What we can’t understand we call nonsense. What we can’t read we call gibberish. There is no free will. There are no variables. – 119-118
The cultures that don’t castrate you to make you a slave, they castrate your mind. They make sex so filthy and evil and dangerous that no matter how good you know it would feel to have sexual relations, you won’t. – 38
After Dark – Haruki Murakami
Is action merely the incidental product of though, or is thought the consequential product of action? – 188
That people’s memories are maybe the fuel they burn to stay alive. Whether those memories have any actual importance or not, it doesn’t matter as far as the maintenance of life is concerned. They’re all just fuel. – 206

Privacy
The other day at the bus stop some girl violated my privacy and snapped a ‘secret’ photo of me/my outfit on her blackberry. I think I was going to be subjected to ridicule but I truly don’t care. Plus, she could have asked! I would have gladly obliged.
Do-It-Yourself is where it’s at these days!

Bad Romance = Unreal
So I have read two more books but really can’t be bothered to write about those. There will be an ever further slowdown in posts because I got owned on my exam and I need to start putting more time into my studies…lame.
HOWEVER! The new Bad Romance video is fucking unbelievable. Watch It!

Literature
So my exam spree is finally done and lots of time has passed since my last post. So, let’s see.
I finished reading Norwegian Wood and really really enjoyed it so I picked up a few more novels by Murakami. Here are some of my favourite quotes from the book.
Death exists, not as the opposite but as a part of life. – pg 360
Letters are just pieces of paper, burn them, and what stays in your heart will stay; keep them, and what vanishes will vanish. – pg 385
Nobody likes being alone that much. I don’t go out of my way to make friends, that’s all. It just leads to disappointment. – pg 68
After this book I picked up Fight Club by Chuck Palahniuk. I read the book in two days and really enjoyed it. I loved the movie so while at times the book seemed repetitive, it really gave me a better understanding of the whole movie and Tyler Durden’s role. The book is so much more bad-ass than the movie, minus Brad Pitt.
My favourite quotes from this one:
At the time, my life seemed too complete, and maybe we have to break everything to make something better out of ourselves. - pg. 52
The gyms you go to are crowded with guys trying to look like men as if being a man means looking the way a sculptor or an artist director says. – pg. 50
Being tired isn’t the same as being rich, but most times it’s close enough. – pg. 218
I’m currently trying to read The Zen and Art of Motorcycle Maintenance and it is so deep its crazy. More on that when I finish.
